The US Men’s Basketball Team has been revealed:
PG: Kyrie Irving, Kyle Lowry
SG: DeMar DeRozan, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson
SF: Kevin Durant, Paul George, Harrison Barnes
PF: Carmelo Anthony, Draymond Green
C: DeMarcus Cousins, DeAndre Jordan
I think this is a pretty good team, but definitely not as good as the 2012 team. At center, I think that DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan are both really good. But they both have their flaws. Cousins is a great all-around player (26.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists), but stinks from the line (71.8%) and has a hot temper. Jordan, meanwhile, can’t score much (12.7 ppg), and stinks from the line (43%), but gets lots of rebounds and is a great defensive player.
The team lacks a true power forward other than Draymond Green, so Carmelo Anthony, normally a small forward, switched to the 4 spot. At small forward, the team features Kevin Durant, one of the NBA’s premier players. They also have 2K17 cover boy Paul George, regularly a shooting guard, at small forward. The move that really surprises me is selecting Harrison Barnes to play at the Olympics. He’s an okay player, but definitely not Olympic-caliber.
At shooting guard, the team has three great players in DeMar DeRozan, Klay Thompson, and Jimmy Butler. However, all three have another player that they play off of (2 in the case of Thompson) but are both great players. And at point guard, they have a one-two punch in Kyrie Irving and Kyle Lowry. Both are great players.
In conclusion, despite the lack of experience on the US Team, Team USA should thake home the gold again.
